DIY - Adding Caning To Your Cabinets

I hope that you guys enjoyed last week’s video where I showed you how I fully made over our home office. As I mentioned in the video, this was the project that gave us the knowledge and confidence to continue with all of the other projects we’ve done over the years. I just love how everything has come together - and that if we’ve gotta work, then at least it’s in a place that feels comfortable and cozy. I honestly spend 90% of my day in this space, so for me, it just had to be beautiful.

One of the potential problems of this build was where we were going to put all of the big ugly items like the computer modems, printers, and all of the cords. Because I wanted this space to be beautiful, I just didn’t want these items sitting on our new desks. After going back and forth about where these items should “live”, we decided that by adding in a cabinet in between each of our desks could solve that problem.

The next hurdle we had to jump through was figuring out how we were going to allow for air flowage in this cabinet because with all of the machinery that was going to be placed inside, there needed to be a way for everything to breathe without getting overheated. So I decided to cut the backs off of the cabinet doors and replace it with cane webbing. That way the doors and cabinet could be pretty - but also be very functional. I love how they turned out and thought I would provide a guide for how you can add caning to your doors - whether you need to because of air flowage - or you simply want to make the front of your cabinets pretty. So let’s jump in!

This was a fun project, and while most of the time was spent on allowing the caning and paint to dry - the results are worth every minute. If you are interested in doing a similar project, I purchased my caning on Etsy - here. Of course, if you have any questions or concerns as you working on this project, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me - I’m always happy to help!
